Northern test-drive checklist

  1. Drive it on gravel or a rough road if you can, not just smooth pavement.
  2. Try the heater, defrost, heated seats and heated steering wheel.
  3. Ask which drive system it has, whether it has a low range, and how the drive modes work.
  4. Check what tires are on it. Are they winter, all-weather or all-season?
  5. For a plug-in, ask about charging cables, charge times and preconditioning.
  6. Check for a block heater cord, if the vehicle has one.
